Bettina Hauke (born 1968 in Duisburg) is a German artist living and working in Berlin and Oldenburg.

Hauke’s work combines painting, collage and photography to create layered compositions in which different realities coexist. Fragments remain visible, revealing the process of construction while becoming an integral part of the image itself. Moving between figuration and abstraction, her works explore memory, perception and the interconnectedness of people, places and time.

Using oil paint alongside paper, photographic and lacquer fragments, Hauke develops a distinctive visual language in which familiar motifs—trees, flowers, animals and historical references—appear transformed through layering and juxtaposition. Rather than offering fixed narratives, her paintings invite multiple readings, balancing clarity with ambiguity and material presence with illusion.

Hauke studied Fine Art at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen under Prof. Jürgen Waller and Prof. J. F. Guiton. Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Germany and internationally.

Bettina Hauke’s work has been presented at the Frauenmuseum Bonn, Kunsthalle Wilhelmshaven, the European Art Association Berlin (Europäischer Kunstverein Berlin) in the exhibition Vermeer Contemporary, the Parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate (Mainzer Landtag), Schloss Schönhausen Berlin, POLARRAUM Hamburg, LiTE-HAUS Gallery Berlin, and Galerie Kristine Hamann in Wismar, among others. Earlier exhibitions and projects include the Weserburg Museum of Modern Art, Bremen, Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach, Galerie Hubertus Wunschik, Mönchengladbach, and Vallauris, France.

In September 2026, DCV will publish an artist’s monograph featuring essays by the art critic Larissa Kikol and the writer Axel Ruoff.
